SongPaw padded in, head lowered and ears flattened. Her green eyes swam with thoughts and confusion as she waited for her mentor, sitting. She had surprisingly good posture for such a young cat, her spine straight, shoulders back, and paws placed neatly together with her tail wrapped around them.

He padded in, and noticed her posture. "Nice posture, SongPaw, it will help you in future battles and hunting. We've only been here for mere seconds and you've already impressed me!" he chuckled lightly, with a friendly smile.

She felt her ears burning and dipped her head to hide the embarrassment from the compliment, then stood, "What's first?" she asked in a quiet voice, almost mumbling.

He meowed. "You may choose, battle or hunting." he flicked an ear.

She considered it for a moment, tail waving. "Battle." she said finally, the fur along her shoulder fluffing up as a light breeze blew and green eyes glittering, more focused now.

He nodded. "Alright," he shook his fur. "First I will show you a battle move, then you will attempt it." he then meowed. "This move is quite valuable, and it is called the tail trip; you unexpectedly stick your tail out when your opponent has all fours on the ground, and it will trip him, thus giving you time to pick yourself up and retaliate. You try it on me." he backed up a bit, and then padded forward, giving her a good chance to trip him.

She looked a little apprehensive but rolled onto her back and lashed her tail out at the tom's paws.

He tripped, and then got up, shaking his pelt off. "Great!" he said with a smile.

She blinked and rolled onto her paws, her eyes got that dazed look that she''d had at the ceremony. "Wouldn't it be more efficient to use my paws?" the question came out before she could stop it, not wanting to be correcting her mentor she shook her head, eyes swimming with confusion. "Nevermind." she mumbled, "What's next?"

He took it to consideration for a few seconds, then meowed. "You are correct." he said. That impressed expression was faded, but then returned when he heard her words again. "Well done." he said, smiling.
